Welcome to The Hermitage. A place to celebrate life, nurture the mind and spirit, and develop lasting relationships. All with the comfort and security of the continuing care retirement community located in the heart of Richmond's classic neighborhood.
Here in our historic Ginter Park community, we welcome senior residents at any level of service, ensuring a complete continuum of care in a warm, familiar environment throughout their lifetime.

Independent Living with Elegance and Warmth
Your home at the Hermitage will offer beautiful views of our landscaped grounds and the surrounding historic neighborhood.
What does Independent Living look like?
Independent Living residents live in their own apartments at the Hermitage. They participate in as many of the activities of our retirement community as they choose. They can prepare a snack or light meal in their own kitchenettes or enjoy tasty meals in our dining room, and in general, continue with their normal routines. They keep their own cars if they like, with convenient parking spaces. And they can also use the transportation provided by The Hermitage.
Of course, all senior residents enjoy delicious meals in our beautiful dining room, housekeeping, laundry and transportation services, rehabilitation therapies (occupation, physical and speech), and access to the Medical Director.
In addition, Independent Living at The Hermitage includes a full and varied schedule of programs to allow our residents to remain engaged and socially active. Concerts, entertainment, worship services, water aerobics, shopping trips, current events, cards and board games, volunteer opportunities, crafts, painting, weaving, outings to plays and museums...all help residents maintain a healthy quality of life.
Who is best suited for an Independent Living community?
Residents who value their independence, but no longer wish to maintain a large home, are excellent candidates. Independent Living residents don’t require the full, 24-hour care of a nursing home, help with activities like maintaining their medication schedule, dressing, and bathing. But they recognize that these options may be wanted at some point down the road, so they prefer to live in a retirement community that provides a full range of services.
How does Independent Living differ from a retirement home or a nursing home?
Independent Living is a way for residents to maintain maximum independence. Unlike a nursing home, Independent Living residents maintain their own spacious apartments or suites. Unlike a retirement home, Independent Living residents at communities like The Hermitage have access to a full continuum of care, including Assisted Living and Health Care, should the need arise..
Maximum Independence, with the Extra Assistance You Need
Assisted Living allows our residents to stay in their apartment, and receive the individual care they require. This includes assisted living services such as help with activities of daily living (bathing and dressing) and medication management.
Assisted Living. The freedom you want. The care you need.
What does Assisted Living look like?
Assisted Living residents live in their own apartments at the Hermitage. Residents have a choice of a studio apartment or a one or two bedroom suite, each equipped with cable TV and telephone access. For an extra measure of security, a 24-hour, emergency call system is provided, linking residents directly to our staff.
They participate in as many of the activities of our community as they choose, enjoy tasty meals in our dining room, and in general, continue with their normal routines. They receive assistance as needed in activities of daily living, like maintaining their medication schedule, dressing, and bathing.

What exactly is an Assisted Living community?
Assisted Living communities can vary greatly, depending on the community. The Assisted Living at The Hermitage is fully integrated into the overall community; apartments are located throughout the community so there is no distinction. And because the Hermitage is a continuing care community, residents can move from Independent Living, to Assisted Living, to secured memory care at McGuire Park, to Health Care as their needs change.

How does Assisted Living differ from a skilled care facility or a nursing home?
