I receive Social Security Disability,I was married in 1973 1nd Divorced in 1990,My Ex will be 62 in January2010,I will be 62 in July of2010 when should I apply to draw on his Social Security,I have not re married,also I was in a car accident last August and was injured and I have an accident attorney and he working on trying to get me a settlement will this affect my Social Security Disability,If I plan to self my house in Florida in 2010 to Move to Arkansas will this affect my Social Security,because I will Have to pay moving expenses and to pay rent when I move to Arkansas what should I do.Sincerely.Pamela

Dear Pamela: You can apply for ex-wifes benefits when you are 62 because your ex-husband will already be 62. Remember wifes benefits are based on 1/2 of the husbands rate. Your disability might be more than that now. The lump sum settlement will not affect your disability unless it is workers comp...Your benefit rate should not change unless you are receiving SSI, which is needs based and has different amounts in different states. I don't know how you would get money to move and pay rent in Arkansas. What do you pay rent with now? Carol
