Oakwood offers memory care facilities on both its East and West Campus to meet the needs of otherwise healthy residents suffering from early stages of Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. Oakwood Knoll at Oakwood Village East, which offers care for 20 residents, and Covenant Oaks at Oakwood Village West, which can provide care for 40 individuals, offer assisted living for residents diagnosed with a form of dementia or memory loss. The environment in the memory care facilities is one which supports resident independence within secure surroundings. Greater focus is placed upon security and resident supervision. Programming is designed especially for residents with memory-impairment, and residents are encouraged to remain socially active at meals and throughout the day.
Each resident has a private room with his/her own private bath. A pair rooms in each household (households consist of ten rooms) has a shared bathroom, ideal for married couples. Rooms are furnished and decorated with each resident's personal belongings, fostering a feeling of familiarity and security. Residents of each household share a pleasant, country-style kitchen and a comfortable living room. Oakwood's memory care program includes a RN Health Coordinator, Activity Director, and a Program Director. Each household has direct access to a beauty shop, spa, sunny lounges, well-equipped activity rooms, and specially-designed gardens.
Oakwood's care and leisure options are completely centered upon the residents themselves. These options are tailored to residents' interests and personal life histories and focus on their abilities rather than disabilities. The program keeps residents involved in the community through a variety of social outings and special events within each household. Oakwood Village welcomes and encourages family involvement at all times. Staff relieves daily burdens by providing meals, housekeeping, and laundry services.
