my spouse has been gone over nine years! i was wondering if i was due too claim any benifits ! we have never been divorced and my dear sweet daughter of my spouse just passed away of this year ! but i;m told by very dear friends that have received benefits for there lost of there spouses they the wifes have received some kind of benifits for there spouses that have passed ! we where married till his death and i never remarried ! nore do i plan on it ! i'm happy with out a spouse ! but i thought i would check it out with ya ! god bless ya and hope ya can help me out with the right information!

Dear Jat: If you are over 60 and you were married for at least 9 months, then you are probably entitled to widows benefits. Whether or not you will receive anything is depending on what kind of income you receive. If you have a high income, then after you subtract the $14160 from your yearly income and divide by 2 then divide by your benefit amount and see if there are more than 12 months. If there are, then you would not be payable anything. But if you would get 6 or more checks, you should think about it. Widows have options that other wifes dont. Do call SS and make an appointment of you are over 60 and have lower earnings......Carol
