I have been divorced over 10 years from a marriage of 24 years. I have worked all of my life and will receive a decent SS amount. I am considering marriage. My new husband will receive more SS than me. I am currently 53. What will happen to my SS amount if I marry? Is there a difference if I wait until after a certain age to marry?

Dear Penney:
If you marry you can still collect your own SS. If you wait until you are 60 to marry, then you can file on your ex-husbands account if he should die. Therefore, you would have several options that would involve both husbands. If there is no reason to marry before age 60, why not wait? If it were me, I would wait....Carol
