I'm 72 years old and still working. I have health insurance where I work that covers both me and my wife. The place where I work has two different plans. One they call "Silver" and one they call "Gold". I 'm enrolled in the Gold which is the better of the two. I do this because it is the best of the two and my wife has health problems. Every year in May there is "Open Inrollment" and I can make changes. The "Gold" plan cost me and t5he "Silver" plan is not as good but it's FREE. Now my wife and I are on Social Securty. I am the primary person and my wife draws on me. Now my question is; Would it be possible for me to switch to the free plan and enroll my wife in medicare?

Dear William: You would have to compare the costs. Remember Medicare B costs around $100 a month and you might also need medicine coverage. You can take your wife off your health insurance and enroll her in Medicare B under a special enrollment period prevision. Call SS and ask them about you and your wife and the SEP. You should not be charged a penalty.....Carol
