my father in law is 93 years old and we are in the process of admitting him into an Assistant Living Home. He takes no medications and is hardly sick. He has not had a regular doctor up until now, as he will be seeing a doctor next Tuesday for a physical to admit into the home. Therefore he had really never used medicare an when we ask him about having it or a medicare card, he doesn't know. Of course at his age although he is in very good health, his memory is not the best. My question is how do we go about finding out about his qualifications for medicare? We have been informed this doctor appointment he has next week will be expensive. Thank you for any help you can offer us.

Dear Sandy: Hopefully, your father in law has been paying for Medicare A/B through his SS check. His medicare number would be his SSN followed by an A. If you call your local office and tell them your problem, they will help you find out what benefits he has.... If you have any other questions...please write back....Carol
