Social Security Answer:

My Father Died December of 2004 and he would have been 78 years old,we had the service on his birthday which was December 19th,he was Retired from ***** Telephone Company and he paid into Social Security all his working years, My Mom was an accounting Technichan for the VA Hospital and when she went to the Social Security office they told her she could not draw his Social Security benanfit's,she just turned 80 year's old June the 8th of this Year. My Dad's sister Just turned 89 in May and her deceased husband had an eye shot out while he was in the Army and He was a rural route carrier with the post office and she retired from the South western Bell Telephone and she Receives both his pension's, Why is it when some one in the Military Retiree's and then they get a job at the post office wich is a federal job and they retire and have two pension's,and my Mon should be able to draw my father's Social Security she really need's the money she is on a fixed income, please let me know if anything can be done for my Mom.Sincerely/
Pamela .

Dear Pamela:
The only reason I can think of that would cancel any SS widows benefits , is that she earned more money than your father. Have her find out what his benefit would be and then take 2/3's of her federal pension from that. The balance would be what her
SS widows benefits would be. The reason that your dad's sister has different benefits, is that she probably reached her age limit before the laws were passed.
Find out if she was exempt from the 2/3's offset law. Carol
