Dear Lavonne: If you are between age 60 and 66, then you are subject to the $14160 limit of earnings. That means that Social Security holds $1 for every $2 you earn over that amount. So, Social Security would hold $12920 worth of your benefits. Take that total and divide it by your widows rate and you will know how many checks it will take to cover your earnings. If it is over 12, then you would not be due any benefits for the year. If it is around 6 or 7, then you would get some checks and have to make a decision whether to file for 5 or 6 checks a year. Remember, you can file for widows and let your own benefits remain until age 70 ( only good if your age 70 amount is more than your widows benefits) Also, at age 66, earnings do not matter........Carol
