My father died 7/3/09. My mom was a teacher for most of her working life and paid into teacher retirement. I think she gets 800 a month. SS sent her a letter and said she was eligible for 900 but she won't get it. When she called they said because she didn't pay into SS she isn't eligible. Is this true or do we need to pursue? Thank you. Thressa

Dear Thressa: That is not correct. There is a 2/3's offset to her pension. That means that SS takes 2/3's of the $800 she gets from her teachers pension and subtracts it from what she would get from your father. If they don't do that, please write back. Carol
