I was married the first time for 17 years, divorced 3 yrs. prior to remarrying which ended in divorce after 5 years. Will I be able to draw on my first husbands ss if it is much greater than mine will be? I would be greatful for any insight you can give me on this. Thanks, sherry

Dear Sherry: You are entitled to benefits from any marriage that lasted 10 years or ended in death (as long as it lasted 9 months.) Ex-wifes benefits are based on the ex-husbands rate and is approximately 1/2 reduced by age. It would be about one quarter at age 62. Most women who have worked at all, have their own benefits that are larger. Widows benefits are the highest rates and a lot of women are eligible at that time. Carol
