I do not know why but I'm having a hard time understanding the widow benefits. I am 60 was widowed in 1997 did not remarry. I was thinking about trying to get the widow benefits to assist getting set up for retirement (paying off debts). I make about 60K plus a year and plan on working full time until I am 65. My husband was 54 when he passed. Will I be penalized because of my salary?

Dear Laura: Your earnings are too high to receive benefits. SS keeps $1 for every $2 over $14160. You could take widows at age 65 and let your own grow until age 70. If you stop working before age 65, you should file......Carol
