Hello, My dad is permanently disabled and is receiving ssd benefits. When he passes, does my mother get all of what he has been receiving? or more? or less? and can she ALSO (Along with his) get her Social security benefits since she will be old enough? She does not know any of this or how to go about it.

Dear Nicole: I need to know how old your mother is. She is eligible for her own benefits at age 62. She is also eligible for wifes benefits if her amount is less than 1/2 of his. If he passes away, she can get widows benefits at age 60. She would get her own benefit if she is over 62 and then add on wifes or widows beneifit to that. When one of a couple dies, the remaining spouse gets the higher amount. Carol
