I am 7 points away from being able to receive my social security benefits. I am collecting SSI. How can I obtain the needed points to collected?

Dear Juanita: You need to earn 7 quarters? It is about $1040 a credit and you can only earn 4 quarters in one year. So, if you were to get a part time job, maybe even one you can do at home, and earn those quarters, you will be eligible to receive regular SSA> That will make you also eligible for Medicare. Look into working a part time job and it will not take away from your SSI that much. The first $65 doesn't count and then it is a two for one deduction. For example, if you were to work and earn $500, you would have $218 taken from your SSI. The work deduction is always 2 months after the work month. So if you worked in March, the deduction would be in May...... Good luck, carol
