I am 77 yrs. old and started soc. at 63 yrs. Would like to apply for the for the additional benefit. Will my present benefit and medicare stop while my application is being processed. I have a very limited income and would have trouble meeting my obligations in the mean time.

Dear Robert: If you withdraw your application, you must pay back all the benefits you have received from SS and the medicare premiums that were deducted from those payments. Can you afford to do this? It may take you a long time to come out ahead. As far as the medicare, that should continue as long as you are paying the premiums.....Carol
