My two children 12 and 9 receive SS from their mothers death, and I receive widow's benefits. I married a NON U.S. citizen, and notified my SS department in person, and the benefits continued. Can I still receive benets and if not will my benefit be devided among my boys? Thank You

Dear Danny: Since I don't know the money amounts you are getting, I can't say for sure if the amount you got will be divided between the boys. Most likely yes, it will be. You need to call your local office or the toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 and report your marriage again. You could be getting overpaid for the months since you have been married.......Carol Your Comment ~ 07-11-2009 15:36:30
Will the fact that my new wife is from England and is NOT a U.S. Citizen have a bearing on my benefits stopping? Also will I have to pay back the money I have received from the time I was married and reported it back in Feb? Thank You.... Danny

Dear Danny: You are being overpaid because you are remarried, it has nothing to do with her being a non-citizen. You might be overpaid a small amount, but SS will adjust that with the kids benefits.....Carol
