My wife just past away and the SS office told me that I can draw 1,000 till my son is 16 years old. I can only make 14,000. Can I draw a rent check on a property of 15,000 and still make 14,000 and still receive the benefits???? I have a farm that I could rent out i it would not count against me.

Dear Robert:
Social Security only counts earned income against the $14160 per year amount.
So if it doesn't show up on a W2 or a self employment form, then it won't count.
Based on what you have told me, the rent check is ok......Carol

Some of this is confusing...and it seems when you ask someone at S.S. you get a different answer than the next person.
I appreciate your answer.
