I'M AGE (85), WIFE IS AGE (82), BECAUSE WE WE'RE UNABLE TO SECURE HER WORKING HISTORY, SHE ONLY BENEFITED FROM MY SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT. QUES. I'VE BEEN OF THE OPINION THAT SHE, MY SPOUSE, IS ENTITLED TO (1/2) OF WHAT I RECEIVE, HOWEVER, MY CURRENT BENEFIT AFTER DEDUCTIONS IS (1312.00), IF ABOVE IS TRUE , 1/2 OF MINE COMES TO ($656.00) HOWEVER A STMT ON WIFES BENEFIT SHOW: ($594.00), THATS ($62.00) LESS THAN 1/2 OF MY BENEFIT - WHY??? PLEASE EXPLAIN:

Dear Arthur: As you know, the gov. never has a formula that is that simple. Wifes benefits is taken from your FRA, not including any delayed retirement credits that you might have received from working after 65. Secondly, she would receive 1/2 of your FRA if she filed at age 65. So what you should do, is find out what your PIA is and find out what your wifes reduction factor was, and that should equal what she is getting. If it is hard for you, just get me those two figures and I will get it for you......Carol
