I was married over twenty-two years and now understand that I can file on my Ex-husbands social security when I retire at sixty-two. But, since I do not have any of his personal records, such as social security number or marriage certificate or divorce papers, what will I need to supply as proof to the social security dept. I am sixty-one now and wonder if I could file now and then avoid the wait when I turn of age for Social Security. Thank you, Mrs. Winchell

Dear Linda: I am not Mrs. Winchell. She might be someone in your local office. When you file for benefits at 62, if you are eligible on your ex-husbands record, you will need to get a certified marriage certificate and divorce decree to prove you were married for 10 years. Sometimes you can get away with the divorce decree if it have the marriage date on it. You can file up to 3 months before your birth month. You can do it on the internet, over the phone or in person. You can call 1-800-772-1213 for an appt.....Carol
