I was with my fiance for 7 years we were not legally married. We had 2 children. He died of a heart attack15 years ago. I tried to get social security for the children SSI said he did not have enough points for them to receive any thing. Well now my children are 19 and 16 years old I am not financially able to help them and all those years I lost a lot of time with them because I had to work so much for us to make it. My Question is, Is there any type of Children Survivor benefits from a deceased father that died of an heart Attack out there?? I never found anything Please let us know. Thank you Angela

Dear Angela: Social Security should have checked out children benefits when their father died. He was still their father even though you and he were not married. You said SS told you he did not have enough quarters. That means he did not work very much. Benefits are rated according to the persons earnings. Since you were not give an explanation that you understand, call the toll free number 1-800-772-1213 and ask them about your 16 year old and if there are any survivors benefits available for him/her. It will make them double check and maybe get you some retro benefits.....Carol
