Social Security Question:Do I have to pay back SSDI if I work after 66
Social Security Answer:
I have been receiving SSDI for the past few years after being disabled with some serious cancer issues, which I was not expected to recover from. Now as of May 28, 2011, this year, I will be at the full retirement age of 66 and very unexpectedly, over of the past few months, I have slowly started recovering from my illness. I have recently received a letter from the SSA that states as of May, this year, 2011 there is no limit on what I can earn. I was thinking if I continue to improve about possibly, at some point, being able to work some again to earn a few extra dollars in these hard economic times. However, a friend of mine has assured me that anything I earn will have to go to pay back the SSA for any past SSDI I have previously received. Is this correct? If so what are the conditions of repayment?

Dear Bill: Absolutely not!!!!! You may earn any amount if you are over age 66. There is no disability after 65 1/2.....Your friend is wrong.....Enjoy your new healthiness. Carol
