Community Description
The Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette provides nursing and domiciliary care for any Hoosier Veteran with at least one day of wartime service. To qualify you must have been a resident of Indiana for at least three years. The Home is open to both veterans and their spouses. Eligible Applicants
Indiana veterans who served at least 90 days, with at least one day of war time service, who received an honorable discharge;
Widow(er)s of eligible veterans, if married for 5 years, and not divorced;
Spouses of veterans now in residence at the Home.
Applicants should have been residents of Indiana for at least 3 years immediately prior to the date of admission (currently waiverable down to 1 year, when compelling medical or financial needs exist).
Eligibility Dates
World War I: April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918
World War II: December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946
Korean War: June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955
Vietnam War: August 5, 1964 to May 7, 1975 (December 22, 1961 if veteran served in country)
Persian Gulf War: August 2, 1990 until cessation of hostilities, as determined by the United States Government.
The majority of Indiana Veterans' Home residents are aged 65 and over; however, there are a significant number who are under the age of 65.
