Heritage Retirement Centers Description
Assisted Living
Seniors who enjoy living in a social environment with few responsibilities and also want a place where care is easily accessible are examples of people living with us in one of our three locations, either Heritage or Woodstone of Twin Falls or Heritage of Boise, Idaho.
Assisted Living at Heritage and Woodstone is truly the best of both worlds. For those who want full independence but no longer want to or are able to care for their home, yard, bills, or perhaps can no longer climb the stairs of their home, want all meals prepared for them, weekly housekeeping done, weekly linen washed, and wish to retire with multiple activities per day to participate in, we are a perfect fit. Many believe their loved one should be in a nursing home, when in reality they would thrive well with us. Our nurse will do an assessment with your loved one to determine whether our services or a nursing home would be necessary.
For those who need more assistance, our personal care and support services are available. Is the elderly person no longer safe living at home alone? We provide assistance and love in a protected environment. We assist with medications. We sit and visit with our residents.
We can bathe your loved one or stand outside while they shower. We can provide one-person assistance for getting up or going to bed. We can help manage diabetes. We also provide specialized diets including pureed, salt-free, sugar restricted, vegetarian, and others.
We provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living (ADL’s) as well as coordination of services by outside health care providers such as Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Home Health Nursing, and Hospice.
Basic Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) are:
Personal hygiene and grooming
Dressing and undressing
Self-feeding
Functional transfers (Getting from bed to wheelchair, getting onto or off of toilet, etc.)
Bowel and bladder management
Ambulation: Walking with or without use of use of an assistive device such as a walker, cane, or crutches, or using a wheelchair
Instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) are not necessary for fundamental functioning, but they let an individual live independently in a community.
Taking medications as prescribed
Weekly house cleaning of apartments
Shopping for fun or necessities
Use of telephone or other form of communication
Using technology (as applicable)
Transportation to and from medical appointments
Memory Care
Does your loved one suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s? Memory Care is specialized dementia and Alzheimer’s care for those who need more one-on-one attention.
People are not with us to quietly fade from the society that all too often does not want to hear their wounds. People come to us to live. We know that the human spirit glows until we take our last breath.
Central to our mission is connecting our people with animals, music, children, and ensuring a routine life filled with chattering employees, residents, activities, and stimulation. When we stop nurturing the human spirit through meaningful connection, we hasten decline.
Residents are not told they are wrong, they are re-directed or told the answer is yes. “Are you hungry for more breakfast? Let’s go see what we can find that you would like.” “You always make me laugh with that story. Thank you for telling it to me.” “A group of us are going; please come with us!”
Our staff devotes themselves to residents because they will never be criticized for doing what is best for the resident. We tell our staff to act from their heart, provide the kind of care you yearn to give and would want to be given.
We understand the difficulties of a memory impairment, of a mother no longer remembering her husband or child, of a father fading so far into the past he no longer speaks. We especially understand the toll it takes on a caregiver who is also a family member. Studies have shown that husbands caring for wives with dementia are at the highest risk of having a stroke. The largest health impact is on the family caregiver, not the one receiving care.
We will work with you to develop a specific plan of action for your loved one. We will hand you a questionnaire to find out what were his or her past interests, stories, favorite foods, colors, smells, education, life path. This helps us truly know the person we lovingly care for, and helps us to re-direct a resident instead of telling them “no, you cannot”. Instead, we can say, “tell me about your 1957 Chevy and the time you raced it through downtown Jerome”.
