Named after Maine's first governor, William King, the memory loss program at The Highlands cares for residents with Alzheimer's Disease or related dementia. It provides a safe, supportive environment in a gracious residential setting. There is a high level of staff supervision, with licensed nurses and nurses' aides on duty 24 hours a day. A creatively structured and resident-focused life enrichment program provides opportunities and support in the memory loss program. The Highlands was the first retirement community in the Mid Coast region to offer Assisted Living, which has only been in this country for about 15 years. The concept is to bridge a gap that so many slip into when their health starts to fail. It?s for the person who is no longer able to live alone, but not ready for a nursing home. Residents have their own private one-bedroom apartment with kitchenette and a full bath, all handicap-accessible, and with all the services just outside the door. That includes licensed staff on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Medication management, weekly housekeeping with linen service is included, along with three delicious chef-prepared meals a day. A life enrichment program provides plenty of activities and special fitness programs designed to meet the residents? needs.
