Emeritus at Salt Lake City Description
Emeritus at Salt Lake City is mentioned among the Best Nursing Homes of U.S.News & World Rankings for 2012.
"We have promised that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do."
This is a simple promise that the staff at Emeritus at Salt Lake City – and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities – has shared since 2000, when our community first opened its doors. It’s a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful – a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our community for its active lifestyle.
The Perfect Location
Emeritus at Salt Lake City is located in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah’s capital and host to the 2002 Olympic Games. Salt Lake is Utah’s largest city and serves as the industrial, financial and commercial center of Utah. This attractive and up and coming city is the worldwide headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day and home to the Utah Jazz basketball team. Salt Lake City combines the amenities of a large metropolitan area with the opportunity to take advantage of year round outdoor recreation such as skiing, hiking, golfing and boating.
Though only two blocks from the downtown area, Emeritus at Salt Lake City has unparalleled views of the Wasatch and Oquirrh Mountain ranges as well as the Mormon Tabernacle, the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Madeleine and the Great Salt Lake. Our building is situated within minutes of such performing arts as Ballet West, Utah Opera Company, The Utah Symphony and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as well as numerous theater groups and art galleries. The Utah Trax light rail provides quick access to downtown attractions as well as to outlying suburban areas.
Two nationally ranked hospitals are within less than a mile from Emeritus at Salt Lake City as well as two highly reputed senior clinics.
A Wonderful Selection
Conveniently located within a single, beautifully-appointed building, Emeritus at Salt Lake City offers a large range of senior living services. Carefully planned and constructed, we opened our doors in the year 2000 as Brighton Gardens by Marriott. Now, we are proud to be part of the national Emeritus Senior Living family. Assisted Living Apartments, a specially-designed Memory Care Neighborhood, and an inpatient Nursing and Rehabilitation Center provide choices and convenience.
We hear over and over that the warm, caring feeling is tangible the moment one walks through our front doors. Designed to be welcoming and comfortable to those who live here and the ones they love, our community is full of living rooms and gathering areas. Secure access is available 24 hours per day – at Emeritus, there is no such thing as “restricted visiting hours”.
Spacious and comfortable, our Assisted Living Neighborhood offers your choice of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments as well as friendship suites. Each has a full bath with a built-in shower seat. Each includes a small refrigerator and counter for keeping some favorite snacks. Depending on availability, apartment windows face north, south, east and west. Let us know what's important to you, and we'll help you pick the perfect apartment. Looking for convenience? Choose an easy-to-navigate studio suite with walk-in closet and spacious accessible bath with roll-in shower. Do you value storage space? Pick a sunny standard one-bedroom with three closets – a walk-in closet, a regular wall closet, and a linen closet in the bathroom. Beautiful deluxe one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms are also available.
Living rooms and common areas are located throughout the community. Join neighbors in the Library to cheer for your side in the Utes/BYU rivalry, or watch the Jazz game. Reserve the Private Dining Room for a lunch with family or friends. Order in, or we can cater a meal for your guests for a small charge.
Invite your book club over – we'll reserve a room for you to meet, and even bake the treats and provide drinks. Or, use the full kitchen in the Activity Room to make that special treat yourself. On the first floor, you'll find our restaurant and dining room, where we prepare all three meals for you each day. Open seating with flexible dining hours around each meal is available. During the summer, enjoy outdoor seating on the patio and watch our chefs cook up a special treat on holidays or barbecue nights.
Dedicated to Medicare rehabilitation and more complex needs that call for 24-hour nursing care, our Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is the perfect place to recover health and strength after surgery or illness. Our state-of-the-art rehabilitation and physical therapy gym was remodeled and expanded in 2012. Accommodations include private and companion suites, completely furnished with fully-adjustable beds with pressure-reducing memory foam Tempur-Pedic mattresses, wireless Internet and basic satellite TV service.
We highly recommend a companion suite, designed to be shared by two people, where each person has his or her own built-in closet, television, telephone, and large window with views of the city or the mountains. We've found that having a partner in the recovery process reduces stress and and promotes self-motivation.
Try our completely-accessible jetted tub – no need to step over anything or lower yourself down, or opt for a soothing shower in one of our accessible spa rooms. Dine in your suite, or enjoy views of downtown Salt Lake from the City View Dining Room. Visit with family and friends, or invite them to join you for lunch in the south-facing Sun Room decorated with live plants and historic photos of Salt Lake City.
Purpose-built for individuals with more advanced memory loss, our Memory Care Neighborhood is designed to include all the comforts of home in a spacious yet intimate and safe space. With just 23 suites, for a maximum of 25 people, the neighborhood eliminates the stress of over-stimulation that can be caused by a larger, harder-to-navigate area.
Yet the open, connected floorplan promotes independence and self-confidence. The large garden and patio is accessed through the dining room, the town mall, and the living room. In the summer, our staff team up with those who live here in Memory Care to plan and plant flowers and veggies, and harvest strawberries and tomatoes when they're ready. Indoors, the neighborhood is open and comfortable.
Strong Caring Professional Relationships
Emeritus at Salt Lake City maintains strong relationships with the following hospitals, all of which are within a few miles of our community: Intermountain HealthCare (LDS Hospital and IMC Hospital), Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, The University of Utah Hospitals, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Huntsman Cancer Hospital, St. Mark’s Hospital and the Veterans’ Administration Hospital. Our medical staff and Transitional Care Liaison communicate on a regular basis with physicians, case managers, social workers and nurses from these medical centers. They provide daily referrals to our skilled nursing/rehabilitation facility as well as provide physician referrals to our assisted living and memory care communities.
Emeritus at Salt Lake City enjoys a unique relationship with the Gerontology Division of the University of Utah’s Medical School. The Division utilizes our Emeritus community to expand its research, education and clinical programs, and Emeritus at Salt Lake City is fortunate to be one of the Gerontology Division’s teaching sites.
Emeritus’ 45-bed skilled nursing unit is an ideal setting for the University of Utah’s Medical School students who are involved with the School’s gerontology fellowship program. Our clinical setting is the perfect backdrop for these fellows to experience caring for older adults who are transitioning from the hospital to their home or assisted living facility.
Emeritus has worked hard to develop reciprocal relationships with physicians from four different Senior Clinics within our demographic area. This has resulted in ongoing referrals and positive collaborations. The majority of our residents’ doctors work within these clinics, and Emeritus provides transportation to and from their doctor appointments.
Additionally, Emeritus at Salt Lake City is closely affiliated with the Utah Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. This national association provides support and counsel to our residents and their families and is integral to our Alzheimer’s support group. Reciprocally, our community maintains an ongoing relationship with the Association through fundraising efforts and advocating for continued research to eliminate this insidious disease.
Our staff are here to assist you, provide encouragement and promote your independence as your needs change. We're selective about who we hire, and everyone who works here undergoes a thorough group interview process and background checks. We feel that we can always train skills, but it's vital to begin by finding people with the right heart.
You'll find that our staff works here because they're adamant about being part of a team that feels like family, with members dedicated to the best care and service to our extended family – that is, to you and your family. Throughout the community, you'll see walls of certificates showcasing the longevity of our staff. At the time of writing, over 10% of our team members (nurses, certified nurse aides, managers and servers) have worked here over 10 years, and
