Compassionate Care Hospice staff will evaluate each patient according to the Medicare admission guidelines for inpatient care after it is determined that the patient meets the general admission criteria for hospice care. This general criteria includes the prognosis for life expectancy is six months or less and a decision has been made to provide only palliative care.
Compassionate Care Hospice also provides special supplemental care for residents of long-term care nursing homes facing a terminal illness.
Added services usually include pain and symptom management, medical equipment that is not routinely supplied by a nursing home, and emotional/spiritual support for the patient, family and friends. Volunteer staff is also available to supplement nursing home care.
