Brett Favre Retirement Speech

A teary Brett Favre made it official. He's retired. The star Packers quarterback choked up as he said that he's retiring from the NFL and the Packers.

He says: "It was never about the money or fame or records."

That's his message Thursday at a news conference at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. It's the first time the three-time MVP has spoken publicly about his decision.

Favre first told Packers coach Mike McCarthy he intends to retire Monday night. He then made it official in a discussion with general manager Ted Thompson on Tuesday.
