Benedict Village Description

St. Benedict’s Senior Community is a leader in health care and housing for older adults. Our care center provides skilled nursing services, including short stay and hospice care, as well as services for those with Alzheimer’s disease or other memory-loss conditions.

Senior housing options, including retirement, assisted living and income-based apartments, are available. We also provide a senior dining program and community support groups, such as the Alzheimer's disease and caregiver support groups for seniors.

St. Benedict’s Senior Community provides senior housing options that meet a variety of needs. With more than 25 years of experience, we have become an expert at creating senior apartments that offer comfort, safety and flexibility in a caring, home-like environment.

Assisted Living:
A warm environment, attentive staff, social activities and scrumptious meals are vital elements when selecting a senior community. At St. Benedict’s Senior Community, our goal is to create a worry-free lifestyle for residents and peace of mind for their families.

Whether assistance is needed with everyday tasks such as bathing, laundry and dressing or medications and other health services, we have staff available to provide residents with the level of support they desire.

Memory Care
St. Benedict’s Senior Community is a recognized leader in the specialized care of those with Alzheimer’s disease. We offer a model of excellent care built on the principles of dignity, respect and choice. In addition, we offer a special living area, Benedict Homes, for tenants with memory loss conditions.
Special Care Unit
The Special Care Unit at St. Benedict’s Senior Community provides a safe environment to meet the unique needs of those with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia disorders. We provide high-quality care without the use of unnecessary chemical or physical restraints. The unit’s staff is a specially trained, multidisciplinary team that is able to offer an enriched social environment as well as physical care for the distinct needs of the disoriented resident. The resident’s family members are important and are included in the plan of care.

The Special Care Unit includes a wing for those whose wandering puts them at risk. Freedom of movement, socialization and specialized programming provide the environment necessary for residents to achieve their maximum social, mental, physical and spiritual potential.

Staff Training Specific to Dementia
In addition to obtaining proper certification or licensure, all staff assigned to work with dementia residents are trained by St. Benedict’s Senior Community on an annual basis. Topics of Alzheimer’s education include “Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias,” “Assistance with Activities of Daily Living,” “Caregiver Role,” “Managing Challenging Behaviors,” “Communications Skills for Persons with Alzheimer’s,” and “Support of Family Members and Providing Care for Confused Residents.” Continued education credits are required to support staff members’ certifications or licensures. In addition to dementia-specific training, direct care staff also receive St. Benedict’s Senior Community general orientation education and Home Care training as required by the applicable Home Care Class F licensure.

About Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer’s disease can strike people of all ages—with older adults being the prime target. Alzheimer’s causes confusion and disorientation; people forget where they are, who they are and what is happening around them.

More than five million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder. It is estimated that 10 percent of people over age 65 and nearly half of those over 85 are affected. Currently there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, however new treatments for the symptoms of the disease are on the horizon.

Research has shown that effective care and support can improve the quality of life for individuals over the course of the disease.
